Thoughts From a Combine (Part 2)
I don’t listen to the radio when picking corn.
We typically don’t break for much of anything, either. When I have a chance to get behind the wheel of the combine, the family knows we are here to get acres out.
Harvest is absolutely my favorite time of year. I get Andy Williams’ opening line of “It’s the Most Wonderful Time of the Year” stuck in my head. Not for Christmas, but harvest.
When we are going hard the silence gives me an opportunity to focus on maneuvering tough ditches (We had a 4 inch rain this year, some ditches turned canyons were unpassable. I did not ruin any snouts.), listening for changes to the combine (Catching a problem immediately can save days from a breakdown.), and occasionally giving my mind a chance to wander.
Here are my X.com posts from the combine this year. You can also check out last year’s: Thoughts From a Combine – Farm640.
Have a great day,
Grant
